Make a temperature logger for your room on a PC, This uses DS1820 sensors from Maxim and USB for interfacing. USB to 1-wire adapter helps attaching sensors to the computer. This circuit also uses a MAX8881 – 12V, Ultra-Low-IQ, Low-Dropout Linear Regulator.

“Getting the board to work in linux (Gentoo) was fairly straightforward. In a nutshell I just have to plug in the adapter, check that the chip is working and gets recognized, mount the owfs filesystem and I’m done.”
